PROPERTIES OF MICRO- AND NANOFILLED POLYMER COMPOSITES ON 2D AND 3D TEXTILES

20/12/2012 Abstract During the last three years we have been investigating the utilization of nanoparticles for the development of radar absorbing materials (RAMs). The aim of our work was to prepare a RAM material on a textile substrate in order to make it light, flexible and transportable. As substrates we used 2D polyester (PES) nets and 3D-PES textiles. Onto these substrates micro- and nanocomposites with polymer matrix were prepared by impregnation method. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and micronised graphite particles were used as fillers at various percentages. The ability of carbon-filled structures to attenuate an electromagnetic wave was investigated in the microwave range from 2 to 18 GHz. Insertion loss for reflection (ILR) for a composite with micronised graphite on 3D textile was as good as -35 dB and ILR for CNT-filled nanocomposite was even better, 50 dB at the frequency of 11,4 GHz. Tested samples also did not exhibit any degradation during the course of one year and are very promising RAM nanomaterials. .. read more
